Shakespeare picnic
My favorite meals to plan are picnics. On the 18th of July, we drove out to Windsor to see Tempest, which is on B's reading list. The show was about as expected — free community theater means a real mix of good an bad acting, and a traditional reading of the play. The dinner was great. We started with the summer's first crop of garden cherry tomatoes. The entre consisted of home-made bread served open-face with a Sea Bass salad (not pictured, sorry; broil thick Sea Bass fillets, skin-side down, for fifteen minutes, let cool until you can handle them, and then mix with diced fennel, diced red onion, capers, and olive oil). A lettuce salad, B's fantastic blueberry bars (the fruit was u-pick from Oregon, the morning from our flight back to California), and the show completed the meal. Since we brought the cooler in the car, we had the treat of chilled white wine — picnics are usually red nights.
